The Sejong Arts Center is located within Yeouido Park, a cultural green space situated in the heart of Seoul. The competition brief envisions transforming Yeouido into a global financial hub, and the new arts center is positioned as a landmark to redefine Seoul’s urban and cultural landscape through innovative architecture along the Han River.
Our proposal seeks to integrate the Yeouido Park landscape seamlessly with the architecture of the Sejong Arts Center. The building’s rooftop is designed as an extension of the park — a sloped, walkable surface that gently inclines toward the linear park to the south, creating a harmonious transition between built and natural environments. To enhance accessibility and public engagement, we have introduced a large-capacity underground passageway that connects directly to the metropolitan subway system. This allows for high pedestrian flow and ensures that visitors can enter the arts center conveniently from both the park level and the underground transit network. On the northern side of the site, a semi-circular volume forms a vast transparent indoor space that opens up toward panoramic views of the Han River. This space functions as a cultural foyer, a gathering place, and a visual link between the city and the riverfront.
